Paul Clarke shared his post to the group: Fumair. See MoreSee Less

After 40 years in this trade you’d think we’d seen it all, but every now and then something comes along that still amazes us. The following photos were taken from a site in Scotland where the client had asked a contractor to relocate their existing fume cupboards and install a new extract system.
The contractor had used flexible duct, which instantly raised our concerns.
On closer inspection the flex was simply gaffer-taped to the top of the fume cupboards!
The "lab" is a partitioned room within a larger warehouse. When we saw what the contractor had done on the roof of the lab we were shocked. 2 in-line fans take fumes from the fume cupboards and blow them directly into the warehouse!! We understand the contractor had originally ducted both fume cupboards into 1 in-line fan but then came back to add another fan once it was apparent that it wasn’t performing adequately.
What makes this really scary is the client is using hydroflouric acid and other nasties within the fume cupboards!
Needless to say the contractor has been kicked off site and is being investigated/sued.
